Frequent flyer points are no longer the only way travellers can enjoy the luxury of airport lounge access, with Melbourne Airport opening its first pay-as-you-go lounge in Terminal 2.
The marhaba lounge gives international travellers exclusive lounge access for up to four hours, with Hudsons Coffee, an a la carte food menu, casual lounge seating, shower facilities, a dedicated business section and large dining room. The marhaba lounge first launched in Dubai International Airport in 1991, and has since opened at airports across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The marhaba lounge is $65 for adults and $35 for children under 12 and the perfect place to chill out before a long-haul flight.
Alpha Flight Services, Australia’s largest in-flight caterer, has opened a new state-of-the-art kitchen facility at Melbourne Airport. The 11,000-square meter, purpose-built facility, is the largest and most sophisticated catering facility in the country, three-times larger than its previous building, with the ability to produce over 750,000 meals per month. Alpha Flight Services currently creates meals for more than 4,000 flights a month from the new facility, with the capacity to increase these by 50 per cent.
With more than 16,000 people working in aviation, Melbourne Airport continues to be one of Victoria’s largest employers, and now thanks to Alpha Flight Services, there will be even more job opportunities in hospitality.
