Treats for the sweet tooth

/ 03 Jul 2018

When the sweet cravings strike, visitors to Melbourne can afford to be choosy on what will tickle their taste buds and satisfy their sweet soul.

Located in the heart of the City, The Original Lolly Store in Emporium Melbourne will delight both adults and children alike. Reminiscent of the yesteryears, the store stocks local and international sweet treats from lollies, liquorice, jelly beans, chocolates to a variety of flavoured crisps and sodas.

Melbourne’s inner city bohemian enclave, Fitzroy is home to a new confectionary wonderland: Don’t Lose Your Temper (DLYT). Visitors can sink their teeth in freshly made desserts and beautifully packaged sweets; from individual decadent cakes to seasonal tarts, creamy mousses, elegant éclairs, as well as organic, healthy options that don’t compromise on taste.

Newest kid on the gelato block, Beku (which means frozen in Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia) offers natural handmade Gelato with tropical influenced flavours. Flavours ranging from lychee, mint, coconut (with jackfruit bits), teh tarik (Malaysian condensed-milk tea), aromatic Turkish delight to those who dare to try, the king of fruit: Durian – there’s something for everyone.

As the sun sets and sugar lovers want a something extra in their sweet treat can head to South Yarra and order a fairy floss martini at Rock Sugar. Diners will receive a beaker of martini over their glass of fairy floss and can watch it dissolve into a drink that promises some adult fun.

For a limited time, sugar lovers can visit Sugar Republic, a pop-up museum which is dedicated to the celebration of desserts, candy and all things sweet through twelve sensory rooms. Housed in Melbourne’s old MacRobertson’s confectionery factory (the birthplace of Freddo and Cherry Ripe) from June 22 to August 17 2018, visitors can relive their childhood as they climb a candy rainbow, splash about in a giant pink bubblegum ball pit and spin the wheel o’treats. Other attractions include a mini cinema, neon candy art, numerous sweet-themed displays and a grown-up candy store.
