There is a new historic destination in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley: Noorilim Estate. The doors to the grand old home were opened last year and the operators, a young couple from Melbourne, have recently commenced guided tours around the heritage listed homestead and gardens.
The one hour tour starts in the gardens, looking at the original structures and significant trees on the property dating back to 1879, as well as changes to the gardens over time and current efforts to maintain and improve them to promote biodiversity and conservation. Later, the tour takes guests inside the beautifully restored mansion and details the architecture of the house and history of the Winter and Winter-Irving families – its original inhabitants. Guests can also climb the tower and take in the view off the gardens and the Strathbogie Ranges to the east.
Guided tours are available each Sunday at 11am, 1pm and 3pm and private tours with morning or afternoon tea are available from Monday to Saturday, along with a private high tea.
