Dialogue in the Dark opens in Melbourne

/ 30 May 2017
Now open in Melbourne and an Australia first, Dialogue in the Dark – the global social enterprise phenomenon in 39 countries around the world – is a complete immersive experience in total darkness.

Led by blind guides, Dialogue in the Dark guests rely solely on their other senses to communicate and make their way through an iconic Melbourne. Armed only with a white cane, visitors will have a 60-minute experience in which they discover how to orientate and move themselves in the dark, identify the world around them through the other senses and collaborate without sight. Guides range in ages from 21-55 years and are from all walks of life with one thing in common; the desire for independence, inclusion and gainful employment opportunities. “I always had difficulty accepting the term ‘disabled’, says guide and Positive Vision Educator Maribel Steel. ‘Teaching the sighted what they are capable of without sight will go a long way in changing perceptions of how we live.’
