Spring has finally sprung and school holidays - as well the AFL Grand Final long weekend in Victoria - gives families the perfect reason to get out and about visiting Melbourne and Victoria’s top attractions.

‘Pay your age’ afternoon tea
These school holidays The Hotel Windsor is inviting kids to enjoy their famous afternoon tea priced at their respective age. Children between 3-12 years, accompanied by an adult, can enjoy traditional ribbon sandwiches, savoury items and exquisite pastries in the hotel’s heritage One Eleven dining room, at a heavily reduced price. Free entry to baby Zoo animals
Animals at Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo have recently welcomed new arrivals and these spring school holidays are the perfect time to meet them. Melbourne Zoo’s baboon troop has expanded, with experienced mum Macey welcoming baby Melako, named after the Melako Conservancy in northern Kenya. Lioness Nilo and father Johari, at Werribee Open Range Zoo, have welcomed new cubs into their growing pride, their second litter in two years. Kids receive free entry to all Victorian Zoos these school holidays, September 23rd – October 8th, including public holidays and weekends.  

Getting crafty at National Gallery of Victoria
The National Gallery of Victoria invites children to be creative in
Uneasy Seasons, an installation by Australian artist Fiona Hall, who invites children to create an animal and its habitat in a creative and dynamic space for kids and teenagers. High schoolers aged 13-17 years are invited to an epic night out on Saturday 7th October for NGV Teens Art Party. Teens can visit the glamorous House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture and Hoksai event exclusively after-hours, surrounded by workshops with contemporary artists, dance performances and DJ sets. Melbourne at great heights
Eureka Skydeck, the highest public vantage point in the Southern Hemisphere, is offering kids free explorer-themed activities these school holidays. Located on the 88th floor of Eureka Tower, Eureka Skydeck will treat young guests to a Skydeck Scratchy Quiz and a Crayola Color Alive pack to take home after their visit. Families who dare can even embark on The Edge, a 3m by 3m transparent glass cube suspended 285m above ground which slides out to provide a breathtaking 360-degree view of Melbourne and beyond. Visitors craving the ultimate virtual experience can also take part in Eureka Skydeck’s green screen activation, VERTIGO.

Mount Hotham

Let it snow
Winter isn’t over in Victoria’s Alpine region these school holidays. Thanks to record prolonged snowfall, labelled “Blizzard of Oz 3” Victorian alpine resorts, Mount Buller, Falls Creek, Mount Hotham and Mount Baw Baw have extended their seasons and will remain open these spring holidays. The above-average falls of powder mean snow lovers can sneak in one last trip up the mountains before warm spring temperatures kick in. Teddy check-ups
Healesville Sanctuary is taking care of creatures big and small this spring, inviting kids to bring their favourite teddy (or plush) in for a Teddy Vet Check. Children can assist the Teddy Check Team to diagnose their teddy’s ailments whilst discovering all about the spectacular animals at the Sanctuary and how they are cared for by an expert team of vets and keepers. Complimentary Teddy Vet Checks will be offered every day of the school holidays from 11am to 2pm, at the Australian Wildlife Health Centre. Children under 16 receive free entry to Healesville Sanctuary during Victorian School Holidays. Teddies get in free 365 days a year.

Wilsons Promontory Discovery Program
Families can unearth more of Wilsons Promontory National Park these school holidays with the help of a dedicated Ranger in the Discovery Program. Kids can explore the flora and fauna of the Prom in the Bioquest challenge, meet a modern-day lighthouse keeper and learn the unique history of vast and rugged Gippsland region. Families can hear more about the rich source of food, medicine and materials used by indigenous Australians at the Prom, learn about the underwater world of Tidal River and the importance of safe and sustainable finishing techniques. Phillip Island Nature Parks
One of Australia’s most popular nature experiences, the Phillip Island Nature Parks Penguin Parade is not the only attraction on the Island this spring. Families visiting Phillip Island from September 29 to October 1 can also meet Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants at the Antarctic Journey. SpongeBob will guide visitors through themed sand art and treat the kids to face painting. Churchill Island will have interactive ’meet the farmer’ sessions every morning which include feeding hungry baby animals, watching Billy the sheep dog at work and learning how to make traditional Billy tea.
