The World’s Most Livable City hosted The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards this week with a three day line-up of art, music, entertainment and.. oh yeah, food.
Federation Square live site event
A picnic-themed Federation Square played host to a Melbourne-curated program of entertainment to celebrate The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards taking place in Melbourne. Hosted by 3RRR’s Cam Smith, a line-up of comedians, musicians and top Melbourne identities (including Adam D’Sylva, Rosa Mitchell, Nicky Riemer) entertained the crowds before the official countdown began. With dinner available onsite from some of Melbourne’s most-loved food trucks, this world-first event was attended by approximately 1000 people, with over 200 people attending from the tourism and hospitality industry – including Attica staff.

Street-art chef portraits
Melbourne street-artists Heesco honoured some of the world’s top chefs in a mural he painted of them in Hidson Lane, beside Chin Chin. Heesco spent almost four days to complete the giant artwork that features: Ben Shewry (chef-owner of Australia’s highest-ranked restaurant Attica – ranked #32 this year), Joan Roca (of El Celler De Can Roca in Spain – ranked #3) Massimo Bottura (Osteria Francescana in Italy, ranked #2 in 2017), Daniel Humm (of 11 Madison Park, currently ranked #1 in the world) and Heston Blumenthal (The Fat Duck chef-owner who was given a life-time achievement award).

Directed by White Night’s Artistic Director and Executive Producer, David Atkins, a program of culinary projections activated Melbourne’s Hamer Hall to celebrate Melbourne Food and Wine Festival’s (MFWF, 31 March – 9 April 2017) 25th year, and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards (3-9 April 2017) both taking place in the city in the first week of April.
