Get your skates on this winter

/ 03 Jul 2018
Baby it’s cold outside, but that doesn’t mean that outdoor activities are completely off limit.

Ice-skating is on the agenda in Victoria with a range of permanent and pop-up skating rinks giving locals and visitors a chance to strap on some skates and enjoy this idyllic pastime.

The Skating At Festival has opened pop-up ice rinks in St Kilda, Sorrento and Southbank, offering an open-air ice rink, great entertainment and a chance to enjoy the crisp winter air. Kids can use the “kanga” aid for some extra support and all other equipment needed to have a great time is available for hire. Patrons can choose to skate by the riverside at Crown Prominade, Southbank, or enjoy iconic Acland Street from the ice. For a truly unique experience, visitors can skate on ice and watch the waves roll in at the ice rink at Sorrento foreshore.

The Docklands will transform this winter with the District Docklands winter village boasting a packed program of exciting activities. A 15-metre ice slide will allow kids and adults to quench their need for speed while there’s also an 8m x 8m Snow Play Zone, live ice-carving shows and Virtual Reality Snow Slinger. Every gold coin donation from the ice-slide ride goes towards helping youth homelessness with Kids Under Cover.

In the second week of the winter school holidays Winter Fun at Churchill Ice-Land will see the once peaceful paddocks transform as an all-weather pop-up ice rink taking pride of place at Churchill Island Farm with beautiful views of Westernport across to French Island. The pop-up ice rink will operate daily from 9 July to 15 July between 11am and 3pm. Entry to the rink is free with a 4 Parks Pass, or visitors can pay a small surcharge with a standard Churchill Island entry ticket.

This school holidays the Moonee Ponds ice skating rink will open up as part of Winter Fest 2018. The rink is open every day between 30 June to 15 July with bookings available on the hour via the event website. After an exciting session on the ice, the Winter Fest also features free music events, live theatre and $8 movie nights at the Clocktower to keep everyone entertained.
